QUESTIONS ABOUT TONGUE TIE?

Ankylglossia, commonly known as tongue tie, is being discussed more and more these days.  As parents become empowered to share their stories, and as more providers become skilled in assessing tongue function, this condition is getting lots of attention.  Tongue tie is a rich and complex condition; one that cannot be covered with a short answer.

As a part of all of my visits, I assess tongue function of your baby.  It's important to understand how the baby's tongue moves because the tongue is the engine of breastfeeding, so to speak.  The information I gather from a full oral assessment, in addition to watching you and your baby breastfeed, helps me fully understand how to best help you.

I take concerns about tongue tie very seriously. If you are unsure about how to proceed if your baby has signs of a tongue tie, or if you suspect your baby is exhibiting signs of a tongue tie, I will help you navigate the process and give you and your baby the help you deserve.
